Biological, Psychological, and Social-Cultural Factors
The biological, psychological, and social-cultural factors that contribute to drug use
- Psychological factors (such as stress, depression, and hopelessness) and social factors (such as peer pressure) can both lead people to experiment with drugs. This experimentation can lead to drug dependency.
- Cultural and ethnic groups have differing rates of drug use. Twin and adoption studies indicate that some people are biologically more likely to become dependent on drugs such as alcohol.
